What does body confidence really mean?

Women are bombarded each day with images of how they should look, be it on social media, in magazines, and in movies. This, especially social media is having a terrible effect on women’s confidence and leading to an unhealthy relationship with their bodies.

Having good body confidence is having a good relationship with yourself, it’s about finding the real you and living a happy and joyful life.

In the Real Truth about Beauty global report commissioned by Dove, it found that

  • Only 4% of women around the world consider themselves beautiful
  • 54% of women globally agree that when it comes to how they look they are their own worst critic
  • 6 out of 10 girls are so concerned with the way they look that they opt out of important activities
  • 90% of women feel body image anxiety,
  • 9 out of 10 women are unhappy with their weight, shape or appearance
  • 8 our 10 women are on a diet

This report really got to me! Especially as a mum of two!

It’s important to understand that a person’s “body image” is not literally the image of their body. It’s not even their feelings about the image of their body. Your body image is how you think and feel about your body. Not your looks, but your body.

As women, we often confuse “my body” with “how my body looks” and think of our bodies mostly from an outside perspective. This limited perspective shows up in the ways lots of people and organizations try to fix body image issues. They’ll push the message that you are BEAUTIFUL just the way you are. That’s a really nice message, but it isn’t effective. It’s a limited and limiting view of what it means to feel positively toward your own body.

Positive body image isn’t believing your body looks good. It’s knowing your body IS good, regardless of how it looks.

Why are women and girls so concerned with how they look that it stops them from living their best lives?

Why are we so critical of our bodies when they do so much for us?

The Solution

Body confidence coaching

Body confidence coaching is at the forefront of a powerful, new, holistic body mind and spirit healing movement. Inspired by positive psychology, energy medicine, and quantum science.

It is about understanding our relationship with our body, food, fitness, weight, body image, authentic eating, happiness and health.

Our bodies are where we live – our physical homes throughout this lifetime.

We experience our lives through our bodies.

Everything we think, feel, say or believe is felt in our bodies, linked to our minds, and woven through to our spirits. We are
fantastic, amazing human beings and yet for many people, their bodies have become a forgotten land. A place that feels alien, disconnected or simply not ‘good enough!”

Never before have so many felt so disconnected and out of love with their bodies and their lives. It is time for a revolution and evolution in the way that we relate to ourselves and to others.

Just look around and you’ll see the evidence of broken relationships with the most important person in our lives – ourselves! You will see it in the tattered dreams people have left behind – not feeling good enough to pursue them. You will find evidence of it in how people talk about themselves and others. You will see it in the media with the endless obsession with “perfection”. You will notice it in the confusion about what to eat and even in what to wear as more and more people feel out of touch and out of love with their authentic wonderful selves.
